In One Sentence

EmployHK Hong Kong Talent Guide (employ.hk) is a specialist content site for mainland and overseas Chinese seeking jobs in Hong Kong and transitioning their residency status to remain in the city. We do not run a general recruitment platform (that space is occupied by JobsDB / LinkedIn and similar services); instead, we focus on “the three things people who have already arrived or are about to arrive in Hong Kong care about most”:

  1. Visa status — how to choose, apply for and avoid the common pitfalls across the four main routes: IANG, QMAS, TTPS and GEP.
  2. Entering an industry — how to break into the four high-paying industries of finance, law, consulting and technology from a mainland academic background.
  3. Employers and pay — genuine reviews of major employer brands in Hong Kong, salary benchmarks, interview processes and professional networks.

Why Launch a Separate Site?

Hong Kong has an oversupply of “general recruitment sites”, yet vertical content on job hunting and staying in Hong Kong has long suffered from insufficient supply:

  • Immigration Department announcements are comprehensive but written in “policy language” — an ordinary applicant finds it hard to quickly judge “for my case, is IANG or QMAS the better-value route”.
  • Agency websites lean towards selling application-handling services, packaging the process as overly complicated to raise their average order value.
  • Student forums are highly fragmented — the same visa question gets scattered answers across seven threads, with no one systematically organising them.

EmployHK’s positioning is to systematise this scattered information, turning every visa, every industry and every employer into an in-depth, verifiable and updatable guide.

Editorial Stance

  • Official sources are our primary data basis: the Hong Kong Immigration Department, the Labour Department, the Census and Statistics Department, and Hong Kong salary surveys (such as the annual Robert Walters / Hudson reports). Every figure is annotated with its source link and update date.
  • No paid “application-handling recommendation rankings”: this site does not accept paid rankings or planted soft-content from any application-handling agency.
  • Corrections from employers are welcome: where an article covers a specific company’s pay, interview process or promotion pace, if the company in question believes the information is inaccurate, it is welcome to contact us by email for a correction — provided it is backed by facts.

Content Map (Rolled Out in Phases During the Build-Out Period)

Visas and Status (First Batch Priority)

  • IANG (for graduates staying in Hong Kong): visa extension milestones, continuous residence calculation, and the path to permanent residency
  • QMAS: the General Points Test, the Achievement-based Points Test, quotas, and visa extension conditions
  • TTPS Categories A / B / C: annual salary thresholds, the top university list, and visa extension performance requirements
  • GEP: employer sponsorship, the salary floor, the 7-year path to permanent residency and the risk of interruption
  • Investment immigration (if reopened): monetary thresholds and qualifying assets
  • Dependant visas, and the difference between permanent residency and domicile

Entering an Industry

  • Finance: investment banking, commercial banking, private banking, insurance, Asset Management, quant and hedge funds — a comparison of recruitment rhythms across the four big banks / mainland-backed banks / foreign banks
  • Law: the essential path of HKU / CUHK LLM / PCLL, converting a mainland degree into Hong Kong qualifications, and foreign firms vs Hong Kong firms vs mainland-backed firms
  • Consulting: MBB / Big 4 strategy / industry consulting, and the staffing model of Hong Kong offices
  • Technology: internet (Tencent / ByteDance / Alibaba Hong Kong), foreign tech (Google / Meta / Apple HK regional offices), and Fintech

Employers and Pay

  • In-depth reviews of major employer brands
  • Median and percentile salaries by industry in Hong Kong
  • A comparison of base pay plus allowances for the same roles in mainland China vs Hong Kong

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not publish general recruitment listings — JobsDB / LinkedIn / CTgoodjobs already do this well.
  • We do not produce “motivational” content on passing interviews — this site only writes content with a structured method.
  • We do not sell job-hunting courses.

The site is in its build-out period, with articles continuously going live; the first batch will focus on the four major visa routes and the finance industry entry guide.
